9 tips to get your WhatsApp message templates approved first time
Rejected templates slow down launches. These simple rules help your marketing, utility and OTP templates pass Meta’s review quickly.
Every message your business starts on the WhatsApp API uses a template that Meta reviews. Most rejections come from a handful of avoidable mistakes. Follow these tips and most templates are approved within minutes.
The tips
- Pick the right category. Order and payment updates are Utility; offers and newsletters are Marketing; login codes are Authentication. A promotional line inside a Utility template gets it moved to Marketing.
- Do not start or end the body with a variable. Write “Hi {{1}}, your order is ready”, not “{{1}}”.
- Give every variable an example. Meta reviewers need to see what will be filled in.
- Keep variables apart. Two variables next to each other, like “{{1}} {{2}}”, are often rejected.
- Avoid vague or misleading text. Say exactly what the message is about.
- Do not ask for sensitive details like full card numbers or passwords.
- Use a clear, lowercase template name with underscores, such as order_shipped.
- Match the language you choose. A Hindi template should be written in Hindi.
- Add buttons instead of long links. Quick-reply and URL buttons get more clicks and look cleaner.
If a template is rejected
The rejection reason shows next to the template in your dashboard. Fix the issue and submit it again under a new name. If you are stuck, our template service writes and gets your templates approved for you.
